Loews Philadelphia Hotel, International style skyscraper in Center City, Philadelphia, United States
The Loews Philadelphia Hotel is an International style skyscraper with 36 floors located at Market Street in Center City. The building features large windows, vertical piers, and horizontal spandrels in buff brick that create a distinctive profile.
The building was constructed in 1932 for the Philadelphia Saving Fund Society and was the first International style skyscraper in the United States. In 2000, it was converted into a hotel and has served as lodging for city visitors ever since.
The building carries the name of the banking institution that originally commissioned it. Today, visitors can see the distinctive illuminated sign on the roof that defines the city's skyline.
The hotel is centrally located on Market Street where you can find shops and restaurants nearby. The architecture is fully visible from street level and offers good photo opportunities from various angles.
The T-shaped tower design maximizes light penetration and allows efficient use of interior space. The exterior combines polished granite and limestone, creating a refined aesthetic that was modern for its time.
