Children's Mercy Park, Soccer stadium in Kansas City, United States
Children's Mercy Park is a soccer stadium in Kansas City featuring a natural grass pitch measuring 110 by 69 meters (360 by 226 feet) and 36 private boxes spread across several tiers. The facility offers multiple entry points along its outer edges and combines open stands with covered sections that provide clear sightlines to the field from every angle.
The venue opened on June 9, 2011 under the name Livestrong Sporting Park and carried that designation until the change in 2013. The new name came from a partnership with Children's Mercy Hospital, which has since shaped the public face of the facility.
The venue hosts the home side from the top tier of professional soccer in North America and draws families and supporters from across the region during the season. On match days the grounds fill with chants and the typical scene of American sports events, where barbecue smoke and team colors shape the environment.
The facility holds 18,467 spectators for regular matches and can expand to 25,000 seats for special events. Visitors will find several entrances around the grounds that ease access from different directions and reduce queues before kickoff.
Beneath the grass runs a heating system that keeps the roots alive even during frost and allows matches to take place in deep winter. This technology prevents the ground from freezing in cold temperatures and the playing surface from becoming uneven or slippery.
