Proctor's Theatre, Historic theater in Fourth Street, Troy, United States

The five-story theater features a Neo-Gothic terra cotta facade with gargoyles, dramatic masks, and rusticated columns rising to lion heads on the ground level.

Frederick Freeman Proctor commissioned architect Arland W. Johnson to build this 2,283-seat theater in 1914, investing 325,000 dollars in what became the largest theater in New York State.

The theater hosted performances by Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Jimmy Durante, and Fred Astaire before transitioning to motion pictures in the late 1920s.

The building now houses modern offices, including the Rensselaer County Chamber of Commerce, while maintaining its original exterior architectural elements.

The theater incorporated concrete ramps instead of traditional stairs to access its two balcony levels, an unusual feature for entertainment venues of that era.
