Prelude to the Dream, Charity racing event at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, US
Prelude to the Dream was a charity racing event held at Eldora Speedway, a dirt track in Rossburg, Ohio, featuring late model cars driven by professionals from multiple racing series. The format included qualifying races followed by a main event where drivers from NASCAR, IndyCar, NHRA, and the World of Outlaws competed on the same track.
The event was launched in 2005 and ran annually at Eldora Speedway, with proceeds going to charity each year. It continued until 2012, when NASCAR chose to end the series and replace it with the Camping World Truck Series Mudsummer Classic in 2013.
The event brought drivers from several major American racing series onto the same dirt track, giving fans the rare chance to see their favorites from different disciplines race side by side. The relaxed setting of the rural Ohio track suited the charitable spirit of the evening well.
Visitors should be ready for uneven ground around a dirt track and bring sun protection along with sturdy footwear. Since the event was held in the evening, bringing an extra layer for cooler night air was a good idea.
Tony Stewart, who owned Eldora Speedway and competed in NASCAR, was the driving force behind the event and also raced in it himself. This double role as organizer and competitor gave the evening a personal feel that set it apart from typical charity events.
