Myopia Hunt Club, Private golf course in South Hamilton, Massachusetts, United States
Myopia Hunt Club is a private golf course in South Hamilton, Massachusetts, that spreads over hilly terrain with natural waves, deep bunkers, and raised greens. The layout measures 5980 meters in total and offers a playing surface marked by thick grass and old trees between the fairways.
The club was founded in 1882 and began as a hunting society before becoming a golf club. Between 1898 and 1908, it hosted four United States Open Championships, showing its early importance in American golf.
The name comes from the Greek word for nearsightedness and refers to the early members who mostly wore spectacles. This origin reminds visitors today how social clubs once formed around shared traits or interests.
The course is accessible only to members and their guests, with a prior invitation required. Hole number four and hole number nine are known as particularly demanding fairways that require precise shots.
During the 1901 United States Open on this course, no professional golfer managed to play any round below 80 strokes. This fact shows how difficult the playing conditions were at that time on this historic ground.
