Punta de Peiraguils, Border summit in the Pyrenees, between Ordino, Andorra and Auzat, France
Pointe de Peyreguils is a 2701 meter peak in the Pyrenees that forms the border between Andorra and France. The slopes feature alpine meadows, rocky ridges, and high-altitude valleys with sparse vegetation.
For centuries the slopes served as a crossing between Andorran and French territories, used by shepherds and traders moving livestock and goods. The peak itself has remained largely unchanged throughout this time.
The border location means visitors encounter a meeting point where Pyrenean hiking traditions from both sides converge in a shared mountain landscape.
The summit is accessible from two directions: via hiking trails from Ordino in Andorra or from Auzat in France, each route taking several hours. Warm clothing, sturdy boots, and mountain experience are essential because conditions at elevation change quickly.
The high-altitude valleys above 2300 meters accumulate up to two meters of snow, creating excellent conditions for backcountry skiing. This seasonal transformation attracts specialized mountaineers who time their visits to take advantage of these snowy slopes in late spring.
