Bucknell University is a private institution in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, located along the western branch of the Susquehanna River. The campus covers several hundred acres and includes classroom buildings, laboratories, dormitories, athletic facilities and green spaces overlooking the water and surrounding hills.
The institution was established in 1846 under the name University of Lewisburg and adopted its current name in 1886 after receiving a major gift from William Bucknell. Over the following decades, it grew from a regional college into a nationally recognized university.
The university maintains three academic divisions: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the Freeman College of Management.
The campus can be explored on foot, with most main buildings concentrated in the central area of the grounds. Visitors will find public spaces such as walking paths along the river and a botanical garden that are open during daytime hours.
The athletic teams are known as the Bison and compete in Division I of the NCAA as members of the Patriot League. Orange and blue serve as the official colors, visible at games and events throughout the campus.
