Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City, Casino resort on the Boardwalk, Atlantic City, United States
Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City is a large casino resort on the Boardwalk with thousands of slot machines, over one hundred table games, and more than two thousand guest rooms. The complex spreads across several connected buildings with restaurants, bars, shops, and entertainment areas.
The property began in 1919 as the Ambassador Hotel, a beachfront hotel on the Boardwalk. After several ownership changes, the building reopened in 1981 as Tropicana Casino and Resort and later expanded several times.
The Quarter is a large area inside the resort designed with cobblestones, wrought-iron balconies, and street lamps to resemble a Cuban town. Visitors walk through replicated alleyways with cafés and shops that evoke historic Havana.
The resort sits directly on the Boardwalk with several entrances from the beach and street side. Inside, signs and maps guide visitors through the many areas, and escalators connect the different levels.
The resort houses the only IMAX theater in Atlantic City, showing films on a screen several stories tall. A renovation in the mid-2010s brought new pools, updated rooms, and additional bars to the property.
