Babette's, Historic nightclub in Atlantic City, US
Babette's was a nightclub in Atlantic City with a nautical theme, featuring a bar shaped like a ship's hull and decorated with authentic portholes. The venue had seating for around 400 guests and functioned as both a dining and entertainment establishment with a full menu of seafood and steaks.
Owner Dan Stebbins took over the originally named Golden Inn in the early 1920s and transformed it into a major entertainment destination. The venue operated under his management until 1950, when it closed its doors.
Famous performers and entertainers from the 1920s and 1930s took the stage here, drawing wealthy guests from across the region. The venue became a social hub where people gathered to enjoy live music, dance, and nightlife culture.
The venue was conveniently located on Pacific Avenue and operated as a walk-in establishment welcoming guests throughout the day and evening. Visitors should be aware that the site is now closed and no longer operating, though its building remains a landmark in the neighborhood.
Federal investigations uncovered hidden rooms used for gambling, complete with trap doors that allowed guests to escape during police raids throughout the 1930s. These secret passages revealed how the establishment operated beyond the law during Prohibition.
