195 Broadway, Neoclassical office building at 195 Broadway in Financial District, Manhattan, US.
195 Broadway is a 29-story office building in Manhattan's Financial District rising approximately 129 meters in height. The facade features neoclassical elements with gray granite columns in Doric and Ionic styles, while the interior houses about one million square feet of office space with up to 30 elevators for circulation.
The building was constructed between 1912 and 1922 and subsequently served as AT&T headquarters for many decades until 1983. The structure was also the site of the first transcontinental telephone call in the United States, marking its role in American technological advancement.
The marble lobby displays classical Greek influences through ornate chandeliers and massive stone columns. Visitors experience the elegance of a bygone era when entering this grand hall with its polished bronze details and soaring ceilings.
The building is best explored during daytime hours when the lobby and ground-floor areas are accessible to the public. The numerous elevators provide easy circulation throughout the structure, though upper floors are typically reserved for office tenants only.
The structure contains the largest quantity of marble among all office buildings in New York City, used abundantly both on the exterior and throughout the interior. This material gives the entire structure a timeless, elegant appearance that has been preserved across decades.
