Old New York Evening Post Building, Art Nouveau office building in Financial District, Manhattan, United States.
The Old New York Evening Post Building is a 14-story office structure in the Art Nouveau style located at 20 Vesey Street in lower Manhattan. Its main facade features three tall bays with cast-iron framed bow windows divided by limestone piers.
Built between 1906 and 1907, the structure served as the headquarters of the New York Evening Post newspaper under architect Robert D. Kohn's design. The publication remained in this location until 1926, after which it relocated elsewhere.
The rooftop sculptures represent different periods of journalism and were created by notable artists of their time. These artworks reflect how the newspaper valued visual storytelling alongside its printed publications.
The building is within walking distance of several subway stations and other attractions in the Financial District. Plan to view the facade and rooftop details from street level, as the interior is typically not open to the public.
The roof is wrapped in copper and rises two full stories, making it unusually commanding from street level. This design draws inspiration from Paris boulevard architecture of the early 1900s, setting it apart from typical New York buildings.
