2 World Trade Center, Skyscraper under construction in Financial District, Manhattan, US
2 World Trade Center is a skyscraper under construction in the Financial District of Manhattan, designed to reach 1,323 feet (403 meters) and built from glass, aluminum, steel, and reinforced concrete. The tower features a T-shaped floor plan with stepped terraces along its upper sections.
Construction started in 2008 as a replacement for the South Tower of the original World Trade Center complex, which was destroyed during the September 11, 2001 attacks. The project has been paused multiple times and still awaits completion.
The building incorporates deconstructivist architecture principles through its geometric forms, creating a visual connection between the street level and the city skyline.
After completion, the tower will house office spaces with direct connections to several subway lines. The link to the underground retail concourse will provide access to other buildings in the complex.
The structure will include 30 elevators and four basement levels that support the operations and logistics of the tower. Horizontal louvers placed between floor plates create a geometric pattern across the glass facade.
