48 Hudson Avenue, Historic house in Downtown Albany, US

The 48 Hudson Avenue building features Dutch Colonial Revival architecture with exposed brick walls and a painted facade on its primary elevation.

Johannes van Ostrande, a member of the Albany Common Council, constructed this residence in 1728, making it the oldest remaining structure in Albany.

The structure contains original architectural elements such as a wooden molded anchor beam from 1790, representing early American construction methods.

The Historic Albany Foundation manages the 33 by 23 feet building, which received funding for roof restoration and structural improvements in 2021.

Dendrochronological analysis of the wooden beams confirmed the exact construction date and validated the building's status as Albany's earliest surviving structure.
