Tricentennial Park, Urban park in Downtown Albany, United States.
Tricentennial Park is an urban park in downtown Albany occupying a full city block bordered by Broadway, Columbia Street, James Street, and Steuben Street. The grounds feature seating, walking paths, and various monuments for visitors to see.
The park was built in 1986 to mark the 300th anniversary of Albany's incorporation, though a design had been proposed as far back as 1914. It realized a long-standing vision for creating this public space.
The bronze seal was designed by cartoonist Hy Rosen and serves as the first monument placed on the grounds. It reflects the city's connection to its artistic heritage and local creativity.
The grounds see the most foot traffic between 8 and 10 in the morning and from midday into the evening hours when crowds are heaviest. Planning your visit around these busy times can make for a better experience.
A time capsule filled with videos and artifacts sits buried on the grounds and is set to open in 2086. It will mark the city's 400th anniversary and preserve messages from today for future generations.
