Adirondack Woodcraft Camps, Summer camp in Old Forge, New York State.
Adirondack Woodcraft Camps is a summer retreat set on 250 acres near the Moose River with two private lakes, Lake Kan-ac-to and Lake Te-jec-na, and wooden cabins built in Adirondack style. The accommodation structures vary in size and design to suit the different age groups that stay throughout the season.
The camp was founded in 1925 by William Abbott, who discovered two small lakes during his scouting expeditions in the region. Later, the Leach family took over management and operated it for four decades.
The camp follows a traditional model where children develop skills in outdoor activities such as canoeing, hiking, and archery while learning about the natural environment. These hands-on programs shape how visitors experience the grounds and interact with the lakes and forests around them.
Visitors should know that the facility requires comprehensive health documentation, including physician-signed forms and proof of meningitis vaccination before arrival. Detailed packing lists are provided in advance to help guests prepare properly for their stay.
The camp offers different accommodation styles based on age: younger campers share large cabins with bathrooms, while older participants stay in smaller units of four to six people with a counselor. This arrangement allows each age group to have an appropriate shared living experience.
