Ameritech Center, Corporate skyscraper in Downtown Cleveland, United States
Ameritech Center is a 16-story office tower standing 253 feet tall in Downtown Cleveland. The building features a reflective glass exterior on its southern side and curved glass surfaces on the northern side.
The building opened in 1983 as Ohio Bell's headquarters and represented the expansion of telecommunications infrastructure during Cleveland's 1980s development. Its construction was part of the city's economic growth during that decade.
The tower stands among Downtown's office buildings and shows how the city shifted from its industrial past to become a modern business center.
The tower sits on Erieview Plaza in the heart of Downtown and is easily walkable from the business district. The building is being converted into residential units, so visitors may only view it from the outside during this transition.
The building has gone through four name changes: from Ohio Bell to Ameritech, then SBC, AT&T, and now The Bell Apartments. This sequence of names reflects major shifts in the telecommunications industry and the tower's own evolution.
