Arab Mountain Fire Observation Station, Fire lookout station on Mount Arab in St. Lawrence County, United States.
The Arab Mountain Fire Observation Station is a fire lookout facility on Mount Arab consisting of a 40-foot steel frame tower and an attached observer cabin set within forest. The structure was built to give watchers a high vantage point to spot fires across the surrounding woodlands.
The station was built in 1918 by the Aermotor Corporation and served as a key defense against forest fires in the Adirondack Forest Preserve. It was part of an early 20th-century fire detection system developed across the region.
The station represents early twentieth-century fire prevention methods and remains an educational resource for understanding forest conservation practices.
Visitors reach the station by hiking a 0.9-mile trail that climbs to the summit with views unfolding along the way. The path is manageable but involves steady elevation gain, so appropriate footwear and stamina help make the walk comfortable.
The steel tower dates to its original construction and shows the engineering methods used for industrial structures in the early 1900s. Many similar lookout posts in the region have disappeared, making this site a rare surviving example.
