Donaldson Mountain

Donaldson Mountain, Mountain summit in Adirondack Park, New York, US

Donaldson Mountain lies within the Seward Range and rises to 4,140 feet with prominent rock ledges exposed at its summit. The peak area provides open views across the surrounding forest and the mountain landscape beyond.

The peak was named after Alfred Lee Donaldson, author of A History of the Adirondacks. It became the first Adirondack High Peak to receive its name during the 1900s.

The peak draws hikers pursuing the traditional goal of climbing all forty-six Adirondack High Peaks. It stands as the thirty-third mountain on this popular list among outdoor enthusiasts in the region.

Access to the summit starts from Corey's Road near Tupper Lake, following a marked hiking path along Calkins Brook. The round trip journey takes a full day and requires good physical conditioning.

The summit sits in a dry microclimate where natural water sources remain scarce throughout the year. Hikers must carry all their water supply from the trailhead to the top.
