Belcrest Apartments, Hotel in den Vereinigten Staaten
Belcrest Apartments is a residential building in Detroit built in 1926 that originally served as an upscale hotel. The structure has twelve floors with three prominent projecting bays topped by decorative gables, constructed in brick with terra cotta ornaments throughout.
The building was constructed in 1926 by owners Jacob Singer and Max Hamburger, designed by architect Charles N. Agree. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and reflects Detroit's evolving residential culture during the 1920s.
The name Belcrest reflects the building's early reputation as a luxurious place during the 1920s. The combination of hotel comfort and residential living showed a new lifestyle where wealthy people could live without the burden of home ownership.
The building is located in Detroit's Midtown area on Cass Avenue, near museums, the university, and parks. The location is easy to reach and the exterior clearly shows its historic details, allowing visitors to appreciate the architectural features without needing interior access.
In 2022, the building was purchased for approximately 19 million dollars and underwent comprehensive renovation that restored historic features such as plaster ceilings, subway tiles, and cast-iron tubs. This restoration shows a commitment to preserving original elegance while adapting the building to modern living standards.
