Basilica of Saint Stanislaus Kostka, Polish Cathedral style basilica in Winona, United States

The Basilica of Saint Stanislaus Kostka is a red brick building with an eight-sided center structure topped by a tall domed roof that reaches 52 meters. A large octagonal drum supports this dominant dome, which creates the building's most striking feature when viewed from the street.

The parish began in 1871 when Kashubian Polish immigrants in Winona created their own religious community. They built a small wooden sanctuary in 1872, which was eventually replaced by the brick basilica that stands today.

The stained glass windows inside show saints with Polish inscriptions, reflecting the heritage of Kashubian Polish immigrants who settled here. These visual elements tell the story of people who kept their faith traditions alive in their new home.

Services take place regularly throughout the week, and visitors can explore the interior before or after masses. It is helpful to check the schedule ahead of time, as service times may vary by season or church holidays.

A lightning strike hit the dome in 1966, causing significant damage to the structure. The church remained closed for several months while extensive repairs were made before reopening in December of that year.
