The red brick church features an eight-sided center structure with a 30-foot diameter drum and segmented dome reaching 172 feet high.
The parish originated in 1871 when Kashubian Polish immigrants in Winona established their own religious community, constructing a small wooden sanctuary in 1872.
The interior contains stained glass windows depicting saints with Polish inscriptions, representing the heritage of the Kashubian Polish immigrant community.
The basilica schedules weekly masses every day except Monday, with Saturday confessions from 3:15 to 3:45 PM and multiple Sunday services.
Lightning struck the basilica's dome in June 1966, requiring extensive repairs before the church reopened in December of the same year.
