Brafferton, Colonial school building at College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, United States.
Brafferton is a Georgian brick building from the early 1700s with two stories, tall windows, and balanced architectural details across its facade. The structure displays the ordered proportions typical of colonial-era design.
The building was constructed in the 1720s as a school and was funded through income from English property holdings. Following independence, this financial support ended and the structure was eventually repurposed.
The building served as a gathering space where students from different backgrounds lived and studied together daily. This mixing of cultures shaped how people experienced education and community within these walls.
The building sits within the university campus and is easily spotted from the pathways, though interior access is limited since it houses administrative offices. Walking around the campus allows you to see it in context with other historic structures.
Archaeological excavations revealed that students crafted everyday items into tools using methods from their own traditions. This practice shows how people maintained their skills and identity while adapting to new surroundings.
