Merchants Square, Historic retail district in Williamsburg, United States
Merchants Square encompasses 49 acres of colonial-style buildings housing over 40 shops and restaurants along Duke of Gloucester Street in Virginia.
John D. Rockefeller Jr. and Reverend W. A. R. Goodwin established this shopping district in 1927 as part of the Colonial Williamsburg restoration project.
The district maintains traditional architectural elements with underground utilities and concealed modern equipment to preserve the historical appearance of the area.
Multiple public parking areas provide direct access to the shops, restaurants, and seasonal farmers market located throughout the commercial district.
The district earned recognition on both the Virginia Landmarks Register in 2005 and the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
