Bloomfield Bridge, Steel girder bridge in Pittsburgh, US
Bloomfield Bridge is a steel girder bridge in Pittsburgh that connects the Bloomfield and Polish Hill neighborhoods across multiple railway tracks, the Martin Luther King Jr. East Busway, and a valley floor below. The span sits roughly 150 feet (45 meters) above ground and carries vehicles along PA Route 380.
The current structure was built in 1986 as a replacement for an earlier cantilever bridge from 1914 that had served this location for more than 70 years. The new construction was needed to meet the area's growing traffic demands.
The bridge connects Liberty Avenue, a commercial street in an Italian neighborhood, to Polish Hill, reflecting the diverse heritage of Pittsburgh's communities.
The bridge is open to pedestrian traffic with walkways on both sides for crossing the valley on foot. Traffic can feel heavy during rush hours, so visiting during quieter times offers a smoother experience.
Beneath the structure was once a sports field where future football star Johnny Unitas trained before his professional career took off. This location played an important role in his early athletic development.
