Björklunden

Björklunden is a 441-acre northern campus of Lawrence University stretching along Lake Michigan. The grounds contain forests, meadows, and a two-story lodge situated at the water's edge.

Donald and Winifred Boynton donated their summer estate to Lawrence University in 1963, establishing an educational center. This gift allowed the university to expand its programs at this lakeside property.

The Boynton Chapel displays hand-painted frescoes and carved wooden furnishings modeled after the Garmo stave church from Lillehammer, Norway. This design creates a space where Nordic craftsmanship and spiritual quietness come together.

The chapel welcomes visitors on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM between mid-June and August. A visit fits well into a leisurely exploration of the grounds and its wooded paths.

Door Shakespeare theatre company stages summer performances in the campus garden. These outdoor productions blend the natural setting with classical theatre.
