Donald and Winifred Boynton transferred their summer estate to Lawrence University in 1963, establishing an educational center for students and faculty members.
The Boynton Chapel contains 41 hand-painted frescoes and wood-carved furnishings that replicate the design of the Garmo stave church from Lillehammer, Norway.
The chapel opens for public visits on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM between mid-June and August, with entrance fees of 5 dollars.
The Door Shakespeare theatre company performs outdoor productions in the garden space, adding performing arts to the educational programs of the campus.
