Burr Pond State Park, Nature reserve and state park in Torrington, US.
The 438-acre recreational area includes an 85-acre pond with sandy beaches, hiking trails, and dense forest surrounding the water body.
In 1851, Milo Burr constructed a dam to create the pond, which supplied power to operate a tannery and three sawmills in the region.
From 1857 to 1861, the grounds contained the first commercial condensed milk factory in the world, established by Gail Borden Jr.
The park provides boat rentals, swimming areas with lifeguards, and a 2.5-mile Walcott Trail that circles around the entire pond.
The pond reaches a maximum depth of 13 feet and contains multiple small islands, supporting seven different species of fish for year-round angling.
