CBS Studio Building, Recording studio in Midtown Manhattan, United States
The CBS Studio Building at 49 East 52nd Street is a seven-story structure containing multiple recording rooms designed for different acoustic requirements. One particularly large space accommodates up to 300 people for live performances.
Built in 1908 as a Vanderbilt family guest house, the structure later served as Juilliard's first graduate school starting in 1924. CBS acquired the building in 1939 for radio operations.
Artists such as Frank Sinatra and Bob Dylan recorded their work here, making this space central to modern music production history. The recording rooms reflect the musical heritage created within their walls.
The interior contains multiple soundproofed studios allowing visitors to see professional recording setups and equipment. The best experience comes from exploring the various rooms and their specialized installations.
The Fisher Brothers undertook major renovations in 1996, replacing windows and removing modernizations added during the 1930s. This restoration brought back the original Vanderbilt-era architecture.
