Carnegie Building, Research building at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, United States
Carnegie Building is a four-story research facility on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute campus, constructed with Harvard brick and Indiana limestone walls. The interior contains specialized laboratories and learning spaces, with large windows designed to bring daylight into the working areas.
The building was constructed in 1906 following a major fire that destroyed the institute's original main structure. This reconstruction effort was funded by a significant philanthropic contribution that helped restore the campus.
The Department of Cognitive Science conducts research in artificial intelligence and cognitive modeling through its specialized Cogworks laboratory.
Visitors should enter through the main entrance on the east side of the building. The interior is logically organized, with research areas distributed across floors and stairwells located conveniently for navigation.
The top floor contains a large open hall that was considered one of the biggest of its type when completed. The space was specifically designed to accommodate large-scale drawing work and group meetings.
