Chapline Street Row Historic District

The Chapline Street Row Historic District contains ten brick buildings with sandstone foundations along 2301-2323 Chapline Street, encompassing eight residences in Victorian style.

The construction of buildings in the district began in 1853 and continued through the 1870s, with the final structure completed in 1896 by architect E.W. Wells.

Each residence within the district reflects the architectural preferences of late Victorian design, creating a unified visual representation of 19th-century urban development.

The district spans 0.7 acres and maintains its original architectural features, making it a reference point for studying historical construction methods and materials.

The collection of buildings forms what experts consider the most substantial block of Victorian architecture found in the state of West Virginia.
