Chesterton Commercial Historic District
Chesterton Commercial Historic District, Renaissance Revival historic district in Chesterton, Indiana.
The district encompasses several late 19th and early 20th-century commercial buildings with preserved architectural features along Broadway and Calumet Road.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999, the district emerged after the Lake Shore and Michigan Railroad arrival in 1852 sparked local development.
The International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge and Knights of Pythias Hall served as essential meeting spaces for community organizations through the 20th century.
Located one block south of the main business area, the district contains multiple historical buildings that now house modern retail spaces and offices.
Following the fire of 1902, numerous buildings were reconstructed with brick and stone trim, including the Chesterton Tribune Building that still functions as a newspaper office.
