Claremont City Hall, Government building in Claremont, US
Claremont City Hall is an Italian Renaissance Revival building with brick walls from Lebanon, New Hampshire, and brown stone accents adorning the exterior. The interior combines municipal offices with a historic event space on the upper floor.
The building rose between 1895 and 1897 under architect Charles A. Rich and joined city government functions with an opera house from the start. It served as a center for municipal operations and public events for many decades.
The upper floor once hosted theater shows and concerts that drew people from across the region. This space still reflects how the building served as the cultural heart of the community.
The building houses city offices, police department, and court facilities, with some areas available for public events and gatherings. Visitors should note that certain spaces may be restricted during regular business hours or court proceedings.
After closing in 1963 due to dwindling use, a dedicated group of residents undertook a major restoration in the 1970s. The successful effort saved the building from decay and reopened its doors to the public in 1979.
