Colonial Downs, Thoroughbred racetrack in New Kent County, Virginia
Colonial Downs is a thoroughbred racing facility that features two main racing surfaces for horses: one grass track and one dirt track. The complex also provides modern facilities for entertainment, dining, and wagering throughout the grounds.
The facility was established in 1997 as Virginia's main racing venue for thoroughbred events. After closing temporarily in 2014, it reopened in 2018 under new ownership and management.
The racing venue hosts regular thoroughbred events where visitors witness Virginia's deep connection to horse racing. Race days bring together people who share a passion for the sport and the animals that compete here.
The venue offers different seating levels, from private suites to open grandstands for general admission. Food and beverage options along with betting stations are located conveniently throughout the grounds.
The facility houses the widest grass racing surface in North America along with one of the region's largest dirt tracks. These expanded racing surfaces were designed to give horses optimal conditions during competition.
