Commercial Hotel, Historic hotel and theater complex in DuBois, United States.
The Commercial Hotel is a four-story brick building at the corner of Long and Brady Avenues in DuBois, Pennsylvania, combining lodging and theater spaces. The structure housed 100 guest rooms and the Harris-DuBois Theater with seating for approximately 700 people.
The hotel opened in 1889 as a two-story building with 58 rooms and expanded significantly in 1901 when a major addition increased capacity to 100 rooms. The Harris-DuBois Theater inside opened in 1937 and operated until closing in 1988.
The theater served as a gathering place where locals came to watch films and live performances throughout the 20th century. This combination of lodging and entertainment made the building a social center for the community.
The building sits at a prominent corner in downtown DuBois and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should be aware that the theater is no longer operating and some areas may not be accessible to the public.
The building was at various times known as the General Pershing Hotel, reflecting shifting ownership that shaped how the community viewed the property. This name change reveals how the building evolved in importance and function throughout the decades.
