Compton Family Ice Arena, Ice sports arena in Notre Dame, United States.
The Compton Family Ice Arena is a dual-rink facility on the University of Notre Dame campus with two separate ice surfaces. The primary rink measures 200 by 90 feet (61 by 27 meters) while the secondary rink meets Olympic dimensions, allowing both competition and training to happen simultaneously.
Construction began in September 2010 on this facility, which replaced the much smaller rink previously located at the Edmund P. Joyce Center. The new structure represented a major upgrade for the university's ice hockey operations and training capabilities.
The main rink honors Charles W. Smith Jr., who founded Notre Dame's hockey program. This naming reflects how the university preserves the memory of those who shaped its athletic traditions.
The arena has about 5,000 comfortable seating spots with backs for spectators and multiple locker rooms available for different groups. Parking is available on campus and the location makes it easy to reach by public transit or on foot.
Kevin and Gayla Compton, former owners of the San Jose Sharks, funded the entire facility through their generous donation. Their contribution allowed the university to build this modern dual-rink complex on campus.
