Dousman Hotel, National Historic Landmark in Prairie du Chien, United States

The three-story brick structure at Fisher Street and River Road features arched window moldings and original brick quoins at each corner point.

Built in 1864 by Milwaukee and Mississippi Railroad near its depot, the hotel served travelers until 1925 before becoming a meatpacking facility until 1952.

The hotel bears the name of Hercules L. Dousman, a Wisconsin fur trader who accumulated substantial wealth through railroad investments and local enterprises.

The ground floor now functions as a restaurant and event venue, offering visitors a chance to experience this 19th-century railroad era building.

The hotel represents one of the final remaining grand establishments from the combined railroad and steamboat transportation period in this Mississippi River region.
