Following the Great Fire of 1879 that destroyed much of downtown Farmington, architect Augustus Gauger from Saint Paul designed this building in 1880. It was among the first structures rebuilt after the disaster.
The grand hall upstairs once hosted vaudeville performances and still reflects traces of that theatrical past. Today it functions as a fitness space, giving the room a fresh purpose while honoring its performance heritage.
The ground floor currently houses an ice cream parlor, while the upper level contains a yoga and fitness center. The building is easily accessible from Third Street where it is located.
The city sold this National Register listed building for just one dollar in exchange for interior restoration commitments. This unusual arrangement helped save a historically important structure from abandonment.
