Picacho de Turmero, Mountain peak in Turmero, Venezuela.
Picacho de Turmero is a mountain peak located east of Turmero in the Municipality of Santiago Mariño. The summit sits at approximately 1,110 meters above sea level and marks the highest point in the region.
The mountain's geological formation occurred roughly 45 to 50 million years ago when tectonic movements of the Caribbean plate shaped the landscape. These processes created the peak that exists today.
Local communities actively participate in reforestation initiatives on the mountain slopes, planting native tree species to preserve the natural environment.
The climb to the summit takes place in stages, passing by a water tank before reaching the steepest section. The hike requires time and effort, especially as you progress through the more difficult portions of the route.
During rainy seasons, water streams form on the slopes and feed into three major watersheds that support the regional river system. This water collection pattern plays an important role in the natural drainage network of the area.
