Quảng Ninh

Quảng Ninh is a province in northeastern Vietnam that occupies both coastal and interior mountain zones. The terrain rises sharply inland while the shoreline opens onto bays dotted with islands.

Early settlements in this region left shell tools and ornaments from around 3000 to 1500 BC. Over centuries the area developed into a center for mining and maritime trade.

The province contains 21 ethnic groups, including the Viet, Dao, Tay, San Diu, San Chi, and Hoa peoples, each maintaining their traditional customs and languages.

The province passes through four seasons with hot humid summers and winters that can turn cool in higher elevations. Visitors should prepare for different weather depending on whether they explore coastal or mountain areas.

The area supplies the majority of coal extracted in Vietnam and shapes a key economic sector in the country. Mining activity continues to influence the landscape and daily life in many towns across the region.
