Hanish Islands, Archipelago in Red Sea, Yemen
The Hanish Islands consist of three main islands: Zuqar Island in the north, Great Hanish in the south, and Little Hanish between them.
Following the 1995 territorial conflict between Yemen and Eritrea, the Permanent Court of Arbitration determined in 1998 that the archipelago belonged to Yemen.
The marine communities of the Hanish Islands maintain traditional fishing practices, utilizing the waters of the Red Sea for their sustenance.
Access to the Hanish Islands requires careful planning due to their remote location, situated between 20 to 45 miles west of the Yemeni mainland.
Jabal Zuqar rises to 624 meters above sea level, making it the highest elevation point among all islands in the Red Sea.
