Dipolog

Dipolog is a port city in Zamboanga del Norte situated along the Sulu Sea, spreading across 21 barangays with rolling hills toward the southeast. The city sits at roughly 49 meters elevation and mixes coastal access with inland terrain.

The settlement was founded in 1834 during Spanish colonial times as a fishing village. It became a municipality in 1913 and gained city status in 1970.

The Sinulog sa Dipolog Festival each January draws residents into the streets with traditional dances and performances honoring Santo Niño. These celebrations reveal how deeply religious traditions shape daily life and community identity.

Dipolog Airport provides domestic flight connections, making it easy to reach the city from other islands. The central bus terminal offers connections to various parts of Mindanao for onward travel.

The city earned recognition as a major center for canned sardine production, with numerous processing facilities shaping the local economy. These factories represent a distinctive part of the city's working landscape.
