Oeste Subregion, Administrative subregion near Atlantic coast in Central Portugal
The Oeste Subregion encompasses twelve municipalities across 2,220 square kilometers of land between Lisbon and Leiria districts along the Atlantic coast.
In 2008, the region transformed from an association of municipalities into the Comunidade Intermunicipal do Oeste through a law approved by the Assembly of Portugal.
The municipalities of Oeste maintain strong agricultural traditions through local markets, where farmers sell fresh produce, including Rocha pears and regional wines.
The A8 motorway connects all major towns in the region, while the Linha do Oeste railway provides regular service between municipalities and to Lisbon.
The Berlengas archipelago off the coast of Peniche functions as a nature reserve with specific marine ecosystems and protected bird species.
