Агуа

The Agua monastery ruins stand on a gentle mountain ridge between the Sochi River and Svanidze Creek, constructed primarily from river cobblestones.

Dating back to the 19th century medieval period, this religious structure followed architectural patterns common to parish churches in neighboring Abkhazia serving 20-50 farming estates.

The rectangular hall church includes a semicircular altar section with western entrance and double-stepped foundation, representing medieval religious architecture of the Black Sea region.

The archaeological site requires careful navigation as recent human activities and unauthorized excavations have accelerated the deterioration of the remaining stone structures.

Local folklore speaks of buried treasures near the Agua ruins, leading to numerous unofficial excavations, though no documented discoveries exist.
