Waterfall Azhek, Natural waterfall in Khostinsky City District, Resort Town of Sochi, Russia.
Waterfall Azhek is a natural formation in a forested area south of Sochi that drops over several rocky steps. The water flows down about 10 meters through thick vegetation and creates small pools where it collects before continuing downstream.
This waterfall was formed through geological processes that shaped the river landscape over thousands of years. The facilities and pathways that exist around it today were developed in recent decades to make the site more accessible to visitors.
The waterfall sits within a nature preserve that helps visitors understand the diverse plant and animal life of the Caucasus region. The forests around it shelter rare species that most travelers would not encounter elsewhere.
The site is accessible via marked hiking trails that lead through the forest and take about half an hour to walk. Wear sturdy shoes, as the paths can become wet and slippery, especially after rainfall.
The waterfall sits at about 450 meters in elevation, providing habitat for rare plants that appear in Russia's list of endangered species. This height and the particular forest conditions allow visitors to see plant life that is difficult to find elsewhere.
