Carps Pond in Summer Garden

Carps Pond sits in the southern section of Summer Garden and is a rectangular basin bordered by stone edges. The water mirrors the surrounding trees, sculptures, and buildings, creating a reflected view of the garden composition.

The pond was built between 1714 and 1716 under Peter the Great as part of his vision for a European-inspired garden. In the 1960s, it underwent major restoration to preserve its original form.

A magnificent porphyry vase given by Swedish King Charles XIV in 1839 sits near the pond's edge as a decorative element. This gift reflects the diplomatic ties between Russia and Sweden during that era.
