Magadan Nature Reserve

The Magadan Nature Reserve spans 883,817 hectares across four sectors, featuring coastal areas, mountains, forests, and islands along the Sea of Okhotsk.

Established in 1982, the reserve became a crucial conservation site for preserving the natural landscapes and wildlife of the Russian Far East region.

The reserve contains archaeological sites on the Koni Peninsula with settlements belonging to ancient Koryak communities who inhabited these northern territories.

Access to the reserve requires special permits, and visitors can only reach the protected areas through organized boat tours or guided river expeditions.

The Yam Islands within the reserve host massive bird colonies numbering 6 million individuals, including rare species of auklets, guillemots, and puffins.
