The bridge opened in October 1967 to mark the 50th anniversary of the October Socialist Revolution. It became a key infrastructure link for the city, enabling better road connections between the city center and expanding residential areas across the river.

The structure stands near the Mirozh Monastery ensemble and the Pokrovskaya Tower, which ranks among the largest defensive towers in Europe.

The bridge serves as a main traffic route and can become busy during peak hours, especially when construction work occurs. Pedestrians have designated pathways along the structure, and it is wise to use them carefully during rainy conditions when surfaces may become slippery.
