Ящик Пандоры

Pandora's Box is a limestone cave system in the Republic of Khakassia with about 16 kilometers of explored passages and chambers reaching depths of 200 meters. The network connects various underground rooms through narrow passages and cavern-like spaces.

Exploration of the cave began in the 1980s when researchers discovered evidence of ancient human settlement. Archaeological finds and wall paintings show that people visited this place long before modern scientific study.

The cave received its name Pandora's Box from a Novosibirsk biologist through a random draw, referencing Greek mythology.

Access requires a walk of about four kilometers from Malaya Syya village along the White Iyus River. Visitors should prepare for solid footwear and good fitness, as the route crosses natural terrain.

The cave system holds about 400 underground lakes of varying sizes and colors. Some of these lakes have received local names like Emerald Lake and Three Elephants in the Well, reflecting their distinctive features.
