Tomb of Ertuğrul Gazi

The mausoleum in Söğüt, Turkey, is a six-sided structure with stone and brick walls topped by a lead-covered dome. Rectangular windows are set into the walls on several sides.

Osman Gazi first built an open tomb here, which was later modified under Mehmed I. Sultan Mustafa III ordered extensive restorations in 1757.

The place carries the name of a 13th-century tribal leader whose descendant founded the Ottoman Empire. Alongside him rest several other Ottoman warriors from the early days of the dynasty.

The entrance opens daily from 9 AM to 6 PM, with parking available nearby. Information signs at the access point help visitors orient themselves around the grounds.

Bullet marks from the Greek occupation period remain visible on walls and windows today. The damage recalls the fighting the structure endured.
