Liljevalchs konsthall, Art gallery in Djurgården, Sweden
Liljevalchs konsthall is an art gallery on Djurgården island with three floors connected by a glass corridor. The building provides spacious exhibition areas, a restaurant, and a shop.
The building was constructed in 1916 and underwent major expansion in 2021 with the addition of Liljevalchs+, designed by architect Gert Wingårdh. This renovation brought contemporary architecture to the longstanding art venue.
The gallery hosts an annual Spring Salon where emerging artists display their paintings, sculptures, and digital works. Visitors come to see the range of contemporary artistic expression presented in these shows.
The galleries are open daily, and guided tours are available for those wanting to learn more about the exhibitions. A new entrance at Falkenbergsgatan improves access to the building.
The new extension features a distinctive roof with lanterns arranged in a grid pattern and a facade decorated with glass bottle bottoms. These unexpected materials give the modern addition a distinctive character.
