Stenar, Mountain peak in Julian Alps, Slovenia
Stenar rises to 2501 meters and features steep rocky walls on the north side, while descending gradually to a karst plateau on the southwest. The different faces of the mountain display varied geological characteristics.
Henrik Freyer completed the first recorded ascent in 1836, establishing the mountain as a mountaineering destination in Slovenia. It has remained a popular peak in the region since then.
The summit features a registration box and stamps, continuing the Alpine tradition where climbers and hikers record their successful ascents.
The main route begins at Aljažev dom in Vrata valley and follows marked trails to the summit. The hike takes about five hours and requires steady footing and good physical condition.
From the summit, eight major peaks are visible including Triglav, Škrlatica, and Razor, offering a rare view of several significant mountain summits in the region. This wide perspective makes the peak a valuable spot for understanding the Alpine landscape.
