Loei province, Administrative province in northeastern Thailand

Loei province sits in the northeastern highlands between Nong Khai and Phitsanulok, marking the edge of Thailand along the Mekong River. The territory covers forested mountain ranges such as Phu Kradueng, Phu Luang, and Phu Ruea, which rise above the surrounding river valleys.

The area became an official administrative region in 1907 under King Chulalongkorn. Settlers in the territory came from Tai groups who moved south from earlier kingdoms in the north.
